Ruetzel Notches Undefeated Weekend at Alabama Invitational
Sep 16, 2018 | Men's Tennis
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Junior Tim Ruetzel capped a perfect weekend by winning the Crimson singles draw, as the Tulane men's tennis team concluded play at the Alabama Invitational on Sunday.
"This was a great start for Tim individually, but also in helping establish the depth of our team by winning the top flight in this tough event," head coach and director of tennis Mark Booras said. "It was nice to see Akos step right in for some great doubles results as well."
After winning the doubles draw with teammate Akos Kotorman one day prior, Ruetzel resumed his charge through the singles bracket by winning back-to-back sets by one break, 6-4, 6-4, over Princeton's Damian Rodriguez. The Munich, Germany native finished the weekend 3-0 individually and has now won four straight dating back to last season.
In the Houndstooth draw, Kotorman continued his rally after a first-round setback on Friday by taking down Miami's William Grattan-Smith, 6-3, 6-4, in the consolation championship to finish the weekend on a high note. The sophomore completed his first weekend with a 2-1 record in singles to complement the three straight doubles wins with Ruetzel.
Tulane continues its fall season in Charlottesville, Virginia next weekend at the UVA Ranked +1. The first of three days of competition will begin Friday, September 21.
