Men's Tennis Completes Play at UVA Masters Tournament
Sep 23, 2018 | Men's Tennis
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Tulane men's tennis team completed its second weekend of the fall season with a pair of gritty singles wins on the final day of the University of Virginia Masters Tournament on Sunday.
Senior and 103rd-ranked Tyler Schick went up against Virginia's Ryan Goetz in consolation play, and despite dropping the first set, 7-6, rebounded to win the second frame by the same score to force a third-set tiebreaker. Schick would outlast Goetz with multiple breaks to claim the match, 10-6, and finish his weekend with a positive note.
Junior Luis Erlenbusch also had his hands full in the final match of his back draw, going deep into a first-set tiebreak before taking the frame, 7-6(10), against Kentucky's Theodore McDonald. Despite a nearly even second set, Erlenbusch pulled ahead to finish off McDonald, 7-5.
Tulane returns to the courts next weekend with a trip to Houston next weekend, Sept. 28-30, for the Rice Invitational.
