Sep 30, 2018 | Men's Tennis
HOUSTON - The Tulane men's tennis team finished its weekend at the Texas Tamale Invitational hosted by Rice University on Sunday, as senior Eric Wagner and junior Dane Esses suffered setbacks in their final respective matches.
Esses, who battled his way to three-straight wins in the top singles draw during the first two days of action, grittily won the first set of his championship match against Texas' Chih Chi Huang, 7-5. Huang responded with a 7-5 second-set triumph however, before taking the third, 6-3, to notch the victory.
In the 'B' draw consolation final, Wagner met Dencer's Iggy Castelino, who earned an early break to take the first set, 6-4. Wagner could not counter in the second set, falling, 6-2, to notch runner-up status in the back draw.
The Green Wave begin the qualifying rounds at the Saint Francis Health ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., on Monday, October 1.
