ICSA Match Race National Championship

Sailing Heads North for ICSA Match Race Championship
Oct 31, 2019 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane sailing team is headed to Marblehead, Massachusetts this weekend to compete in the ICSA Match Race National Championships from Friday to Sunday.
"We may be young and lack the experience of some other teams at this event, but we're excited nonetheless," head coach Charles Higgins said. "This is certainly an opportunity for us to surprise some people, and we aim to do just that. We've been working hard towards this discipline and hopefully we can get some quality wins in the first round. If we can do that, we give ourselves a chance to advance to the quarterfinals, where it becomes anyone's game."
The Green Wave will compete against nine teams in the regatta – Bowdoin, Eckerd, Fordham, Georgetown, Jacksonville, Stanford, Tufts, Washington and Wisconsin.
Skipper Asher Zittrer will sail alongside crews Quinn Keenan, Cam Farrah and Caroline Benson, as the group of all freshmen look to make a mark against some of the nation's top teams on the water.
Only ten teams from across the country qualify for the ICSA Match Race Championship, with crews of four sailing in each of the 23' Sonar class boats.
Each school will compete against all additional opponents through round one of the regatta on Friday.
