Feb 1, 2019 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane women's tennis team dropped its first match of the 2019 spring season, 7-0, to 18th-ranked LSU on Friday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.
The Green Wave (4-1) got off to an impressive start in doubles play, as the duo of junior Laura Fabrizi and freshman Adelaide Lavery tallied a convincing upset of the nation's 30th-ranked duo of Paris Corley and Taylor Bridges, 6-1, on court two. The Tigers (4-0) countered with a 6-2 win on court three, but junior Christina Sisti and senior Elena Muller battled their way into a 5-5 tie at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. LSU would break, and hold serve in the final two games however to clinch the doubles point.
The Tigers used that momentum to take control in singles however, earning three straight-set victories on courts four, five and six, respectively, to clinch the match.
Junior Laura Fabrizi got off to a strong start at No. 1 singles, swiping the first set against the nation's No. 13 player, Eden Richardson, by a 6-1 count. Richardson responded however, claiming the final two sets, 6-2, 6-2, to complete the comeback LSU would also win the other two matches in three-set battles, to complete the shutout victory.
Tulane makes a quick turnaround and heads to Oxford, Miss., to take on Ole Miss on Sunday, February 3. First serve is scheduled for noon.
