
Men’s Tennis Hosts No. 13 TCU, No. 3 Texas

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane men's tennis team returns home, but the tough slate comes along, as the Green Wave hosts 13th-ranked TCU on Sunday, February 24. First serve is set for 1 p.m., at the City Park Tennis Center.
Tulane (4-6) will remain home to host third-ranked Texas on Tuesday, February 26. That match will also begin at 1 p.m.
SCOUTING TCU
The Horned Frogs (6-3) enter Sunday's match after winning two of three matchups at the 2019 ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago. They defeated No. 3 Mississippi State, 4-1, in the first round, before a tight, 4-3 defeat against No. 8 North Carolina. The Frogs finished the weekend with an impressive 4-0 victory over No. 7 UCLA.
TCU possesses three ranked singles players, including No. 6 Alex Rybakov, No. 62 Alastair Gray and No. 83 Bertus Kruger. The Frogs also have one doubles team listed in the polls, as Kruger and Reese Stalder comprise the nation's No. 26 tandem.
SCOUTING TEXAS
The Longhorns (11-1) are coming off their first loss of the spring, which came in a 4-0 decision against top-ranked Ohio State in the semifinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. On the first two days, Texas defeated No. 14 Illinois, 4-3, and No. 5 USC, 4-0.
Texas claims four players in the ITA's singles poll, led by No. 8 Christian Sigsgaard, No. 12 Yuya Ito, No. 59 Harrison Scott and No. 67 Leonardo Telles. The Longhorns also have two ranked doubles teams, with Sigsgaard and Scott listed at No. 39, while Ito and Chih Chi Huang are slotted at No. 57.
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane suffered a tough, 4-3 defeat against No. 14 Illinois in its final match at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago on February 17. Three Green Wave players scored wins over ranked singles opponents, as Hamish Stewart topped No. 30 Zeke Clark in straight sets, Dane Esses defeated No. 125 Keenan Mayo in consecutive frames and Tyler Schick downed No. 116 Caleb Chakravarthi, 6-1, 7-5.
IN THE ITA RANKINGS
In the latest Oracle/ITA national team rankings released on February 20, the Green Wave received a No. 30 listing in the poll.
Tulane possesses two singles players listed in the ITA's singles rankings, as Luis Erlenbusch holds the Wave's top singles mark at No. 70, followed Ewan Moore at No. 88.
On January 30, Tulane was ranked No. 17 in the team polls, marking the highest for the Green Wave in the post-Katrina era.
ITA NATIONAL TEAM INDOOR BERTH
With back-to-back wins Jan. 26-27 over No. 18 Tennessee and No. 19 Florida State in Tallahassee, Tulane punched its ticket to the 45th-annual ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the first time in program history.
AWARDS IN THE AMERICAN
Junior Ewan Moore was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Jan. 29 for the first time this season and the second time in his career. Moore went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles position and clinched both matches to secure consecutive top-20 upset wins for the Green Wave at ITA Kickoff Weekend. He clinched a three-set win in a third set tiebreaker over 45th-ranked Timo Stodder to seal the win over No. 18 Tennessee on Jan. 26, before topping host and No. 19 Florida State's Aziz Douglas in another three-set battle the following day.
THE BOORAS EFFECT
Head coach and director of tennis Mark Booras begins his 10th season at the helm of the program and has led Tulane to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Tulane has increased its final ITA team ranking each of the last six seasons, finishing No. 28 overall last spring. In addition to producing four straight singles All-America honorees, Booras was named the 2018 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and has been selected Louisiana Coach of the Year each of the last four seasons.
TOUGH TASKS AHEAD
Tulane will challenge a minimum of nine opponents that earned NCAA Tournament bids last spring, including Columbia, Florida State, Memphis, Mississippi State, Old Dominion, Tennessee, Texas, TCU and Texas Tech. Each of those teams finished the season ranked inside the top 40 of the ITA team rankings.
