Women's Tennis Earns Road Win Over Shorthanded UAB, 4-1
Feb 24, 2019 | Women's Tennis
The Green Wave (5-7) got an early head start on the Blazers (3-7), who were only able to compete with four healthy players.
Tulane took quick advantage in the two doubles matches, as the 25th-ranked duo of Elena Muller and Ivone Alvaro cruised to a 6-1 victory at the No. 1 position. Daniela La Fuente and Laura Fabrizi were close behind, scoring a 6-2 win at No. 2 to complete the sweep.
The Wave kept the momentum rolling into singles, needing just one victory to clinch the match after walkover wins at No. 5 and No. 6 in the lineup. UAB was able to get on the board with a win by retirement at No. 1, but La Fuente put the final touch on Tulane's victory with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Megan Bertrands at No. 3.
The Green Wave will take a week-long break, before heading to Florida for three matches. They will face American Athletic Conference foe USF on Sunday, March 3 in Tampa, Fla., before meeting UPenn in a neutral site match. Tulane will then continue on to Orlando for a matchup at UCF on Friday, March 8.
