No. 19 Men's Tennis Meets No. 3 Mississippi State, Texas Tech

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane men's tennis team travels to Lubbock, Texas for two matches on back-to-back days, beginning Saturday, February 9 against third-ranked Mississippi State at 8:30 p.m.
The Green Wave (4-1) will then face host Texas Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m.
SCOUTING MISSISSIPPI STATE
The Bulldogs (4-0) hold a No. 3 national ranking matching the program's highest ranking ever and the highest since 1999. In the ITA national singles rankings, two-time All-American Nuno Borges leads the team at No. 5 in the nation while Niclas Braun checks in at No. 64, Giovanni Oradini stands at No. 66 and Trevor Foshey is listed at No. 98. Mississippi State boasts a pair of ranked doubles tandems in sixth-ranked Braun and Oradini, as well as No. 34 Borges and Strahinja Rakic. Last season, the Green Wave dropped a heartbreaking home match, 4-3, to the Bulldogs.
SCOUTING TEXAS TECH
The Red Raiders (5-2) have lost two of their last three matches, but are coming off a 4-3 upset win over No. 14 Texas A&M last Friday. Tommy Mylnikov holds the team's top singles ranking at No. 78, as Parker Wynn and Bjorn Thomson are listed as the No. 14 doubles team in the nation. Last season, Tulane cruised to a 7-0 home victory over then 22nd-ranked Texas Tech.
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane hosted LSU on Friday, February 1 and suffered its first loss of the season, 4-3. The Green Wave dropped the doubles point for the third straight match and rallied to take a 3-2 lead in singles play, but the Tigers closed out three-set wins on courts one and three to jump back in front and clinch the victory.
IN THE ITA RANKINGS
In the latest Oracle/ITA national team rankings and the Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25 poll released on February 6, the Green Wave received a No. 19 ranking on both lists.
Tulane possesses three singles players listed in the ITA's singles rankings, as Luis Erlenbusch holds the Wave's top singles mark at No. 42, followed Ewan Moore at No. 63 and Tyler Schick at No. 76.
On January 30, Tulane was ranked No. 17 in the team polls, marking the highest for the Green Wave in the post-Katrina era.
ITA NATIONAL TEAM INDOOR BERTH
With back-to-back wins Jan. 26-27 over No. 18 Tennessee and No. 19 Florida State in Tallahassee, Tulane punched its ticket to the 45th-annual ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the first time in program history. The 16-team tournament will be held February 15-18 in Chicago.
AWARDS IN THE AMERICAN
Junior Ewan Moore was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Jan. 29 for the first time this season and the second time in his career. Moore went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles position and clinched both matches to secure consecutive top-20 upset wins for the Green Wave at ITA Kickoff Weekend. He clinched a three-set win in a third set tiebreaker over 45th-ranked Timo Stodder to seal the win over No. 18 Tennessee on Jan. 26, before topping host and No. 19 Florida State's Aziz Douglas in another three-set battle the following day.
THE BOORAS EFFECT
Head coach and director of tennis Mark Booras begins his 10th season at the helm of the program and has led Tulane to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Tulane has increased its final ITA team ranking each of the last six seasons, finishing No. 28 overall last spring. In addition to producing four straight singles All-America honorees, Booras was named the 2018 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and has been selected Louisiana Coach of the Year each of the last four seasons.
TOUGH TASKS AHEAD
Tulane will challenge a minimum of nine opponents that earned NCAA Tournament bids last spring, including Columbia, Florida State, Memphis, Mississippi State, Old Dominion, Tennessee, Texas, TCU and Texas Tech. Each of those teams finished the season ranked inside the top 40 of the ITA team rankings.
