Mar 24, 2019 | Men's Tennis
The 49th-ranked Green Wave (8-11) fell behind early, dropping the doubles point for the first time in its last four matches. The Toreros (14-3) closed out a pair of 6-4 wins on courts one and three, respectively, to take an early 1-0 lead in the overall match.
San Diego earned the first singles win of the day in straight sets at the No. 6 spot, before Tyler Schick got Tulane on the board with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4.
The back-and-forth battle continued when the Toreros won in straight sets on court two, but the 64th-ranked Ewan Moore closed out a straight-set win of his own on court one, 7-6, 6-4, over August Holmgren, before Dane Esses battled back for a three-set triumph on court five over David Norfeldt, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5, to even the team score, 3-3, with only court three remaining.
San Diego battled back from a lost first frame to win the final two, protect home court and clinch the tournament crown.
Tulane returns home for a pair of matches against American Athletic Conference foes next weekend, beginning Friday, March 29 against Tulsa at 1 p.m. The Green Wave will then host SMU on Sunday at the same time. Both contests will take place at the City Park Tennis Center.
