
Men's Tennis Hosts Two Conference Foes for Senior Weekend

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane men's tennis team hosts a pair of American Athletic Conference opponents when Tulsa and SMU come to town to match up with the Green Wave at the City Park Tennis Center.
On Friday, March 29, the Green Wave (8-11) will take on Tulsa at 1 p.m., before challenging SMU on Sunday at the same start time.
Sunday's match marks Senior Day, which will begin with a pre-match ceremony scheduled for 12:45 p.m., to honor this year's graduates.
SCOUTING TULSA
The Golden Hurricane (11-9) enter Friday's match with a No. 45 national team ranking, but have losses in six of its last eight matches, but have won two of the last three including an impressive 4-3 home win over No. 23 Oklahoma State on March 13. Tulsa is led by senior Majed Kilani, who holds a No. 73 national singles ranking with a 16-14 overall mark and a 7-7 record playing at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. Ranked No. 117, Kody Pearson has been the team's top singles performer this spring, compiling a 14-5 ledger playing No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 in the lineup. In doubles, Boriss Kamdem and Jarod Hing comprise a No. 55 national ranking.
SCOUTING SMU
The Mustangs (10-11) will play at the University of New Orleans on Friday afternoon before meeting the Green Wave, and have dropped four of their last five matches. SMU possesses two ranked singles players, including No. 74 Carles Sarrio Tamarit and No. 124 Jan-Simon Vrbsky. Tamarit is 20-13 overall and 9-8 this spring playing atop the singles lineup, while Vrbsky is 16-13 overall and 11-7 this spring rotating between the top four spots in the order.
IN THE ITA RANKINGS
Tulane possesses two players listed in the latest Oracle/ITA national singles rankings, as Ewan Moore holds the Wave's top singles mark at No. 64, followed by Luis Erlenbusch at No. 96.
As a team, the Green Wave rank No. 43 nationally according to the latest poll released on March 26. On January 30, Tulane was ranked No. 17 in the team polls, marking the highest for the Green Wave in the post-Katrina era.
ITA NATIONAL TEAM INDOOR BERTH
With back-to-back wins Jan. 26-27 over No. 18 Tennessee and No. 19 Florida State in Tallahassee, Tulane punched its ticket to the 45th-annual ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the first time in program history.
AWARDS IN THE AMERICAN
Junior Ewan Moore was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Jan. 29 for the first time this season and the second time in his career. Moore went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles position and clinched both matches to secure consecutive top-20 upset wins for the Green Wave at ITA Kickoff Weekend. He clinched a three-set win in a third set tiebreaker over 45th-ranked Timo Stodder to seal the win over No. 18 Tennessee on Jan. 26, before topping host and No. 19 Florida State's Aziz Douglas in another three-set battle the following day.
THE BOORAS EFFECT
Head coach and director of tennis Mark Booras begins his 10th season at the helm of the program and has led Tulane to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Tulane has increased its final ITA team ranking each of the last six seasons, finishing No. 28 overall last spring. In addition to producing four straight singles All-America honorees, Booras was named the 2018 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and has been selected Louisiana Coach of the Year each of the last four seasons.
TOUGH TASKS AHEAD
This spring, Tulane will challenge a total of 15 regular-season opponents that earned NCAA Tournament bids last spring, including Columbia, Drake, Florida State, Harvard, Illinois, Memphis, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Old Dominion, San Diego, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas, TCU and Texas Tech. Fourteen of those teams finished the 2018 spring season ranked inside the top 40 of the ITA team rankings.
