Roper Named to American Weekly Honor Roll
Mar 25, 2019 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS, La. – After one of his best performances in the Olive and Blue, Tulane senior pitcher Kaleb Roper was named to The American's Weekly Honor Roll the league announced Monday.
Â
It's the first time that Roper has made the list this season, as it's the fifth time that a Tulane player has been selected this year, following two nods for junior Kody Hoese this season and one for fellow pitchers Josh Bates and Chase Solesky.
Â
In the last tune-up before league play begins this week for the squad, Roper dominated the HBU Huskies in the series opener last Friday where he struck out a team and season-high 12 batters in 7.2 innings of work.
Â
During the outing, the New Orleans native at one point retired 16 consecutive HBU batters from the second through much of the seventh inning, allowing the Green Wave to put enough distance between them and the Huskies offensively to earn the win and aid in the eventual sweep of the weekend.
Â
Roper leads the team with a 3.44 ERA, striking out 42 batters in 36.2 innings pitched so far this season. His opponent batting average of .217 is the second-lowest among the starters.
Â
Tulane returns to action on Tuesday night, taking on the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns at 6:30 p.m. in Lafayette. The game will be televised live on CST and streamed on ESPN+.
Â
