
Baseball Falls 6-3 To Charlotte on Sunday

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Tulane baseball team (23-26, 8-13 American) were swept for the second time in a conference series and third time overall in losing 6-3 on the road to Charlotte (23-24, 8-13 American) on Sunday afternoon, May 3, at Hayes Stadium.
Jude Abbadessa (2-3) went 0.2 of an inning and surrendered two runs in taking the loss. Sam Larson started the game went a season-long three innings with seven strikeouts without surrendering a hit while allowing a single tally off a bases loaded walk. Jack Brafa spun 1.1 innings with three hits and two runs allowed and one strike out. Julius Ejike-Charles walked a man and surrendered a hit without being able to retire a batter. Caden Tarango threw 1.2 innings and allowed three hits plus a run with two strikeouts. Tom Vincent closed out the game for Tulane with 1.1 scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
Jason Wachs led the offense with a hit, a walk, and two RBIs. Kaikea Harrison also drove in a run. The team's other hits came from Tye Wood, Tanner Chun, and James Agabedis. Agabedis also drew a walk as did Matthias Haas and Trent Liolios. Nate Johnson walked twice and scored a run. Chun scored the team's other run. Johnny Elliott reached base on a hit-by-pitch.

Charlotte scored first with a run in the second inning, 1-0, on the bases loaded walk to Robert Nedry.
Tulane threatened in the fourth inning as Wachs drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Haas with one out. After the next Tulane batter popped out and a walk to the Nate Johnson, the final hitter of the inning grounded out to end the potential scoring frame.
Tulane took only their second lead of the series on a two-run single from Wachs to drive in Agabedis and Chun. Agabedis started the rally with a walk and moved to third on a Chun one-out double.
Charlotte took the lead back with two runs in the fifth, 3-2, on Alec DeMartino's bloop single and a bases loaded walk to Spencer Nolan.
Tulane tied the game up with a tally in the sixth inning on a Harrison sacrifice fly.
Charlotte took the lead back for good, 5-3, on the solo home run from Johnny Sutryk to start the bottom of the frame and the looping base hit down the right field line from Cody Gunderson to drive in the team's fifth run
The Green Wave saw Tye Wood reach on a throwing error to start the seventh, but he went no farther as the next three Tulane batters were retired in order on a pair of fly outs and a strikeout.
Charlotte added an insurance run on the team's second home run in as many innings as Spencer Nolan increased the lead to 6-3 in the seventh.
Next, Tulane travels to take on LSU in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, May 5, starting at 6:30 p.m.
