NEW ORLEANS– The Tulane University women's golf team returns to the course on Friday, as it travels up the I-10 highway to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to take part in the 2019 LSU Tiger Golf Classic.Â
Â
The three-day event will be held at the par 72, 6,266-yard University Club course. Tulane will face teams from No. 25 Campbell, No. 91 Chattanooga, No. 61 Kansas, No. 56 LSU, No. 65 Mercer, No. 39 Old Dominion, No. 63 UTSA, No. 116 South Alabama and No. 19 TCU (rankings base on Golfstat.com).
Â
"One of our goals is to play one of the best schedules that we can and this tournament is no different," head coach Lorne Don said. "It's a little bit smaller field with only ten teams, but it is against some very strong teams. It's just really nice to be able to drive to another great tournament, so it's great to have this event on our schedule."
Â
Tulane will tee it up for the third time this spring and the first time since it played host to the 2019 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate back on Feb. 17-19. The Green Wave finished the three-day event 17th with a score of 940.Â
Â
Over the past month, the Green Wave has continued to work on their game in the hopes of finishing the 2018-19 campaign on a high note.Â
Â
"It's been a good month," Don said. "We certainly played a lot and we had some competition among our team. We've seen a lot of good golf over the last month, so we're ready to get back into tournament play.Â
Â
"We had a chance to go over and play LSU's course a couple weeks ago. We had a practice round then and we'll have a practice round on Thursday, so I feel like we will be prepared for what's in front of us."
Â
Tulane will tee off at 9:20 a.m., which will begin a stretch run where the team will compete in three-consecutive weeks, concluding with the American Athletic Conference Championship on April 14-16.Â
Â
"I'm just excited to get back out there for our stretch run," Don said. "We've got two tournaments to play before we head into the conference championship, so we just want to be sure that we are playing our best once we get to that tournament in mid-April."
Â
The lineup for the Green Wave this weekend includes sophomore Jennifer Rosenberg at No. 1, junior Gabrielle Correia at No. 2, junior Haydyn Gibson at No. 3, senior Laura Munoz at No. 4 and Isabella Cardenas will compete at the No. 5 position.Â
Â
In Tulane's last outing at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate, Rosenberg tied for sixth as she competed against some of the nation's top teams. She finished the event with a score 218.Â
Â
"We were really excited for her finish, but I also think we are excited for what's in front of her," Don said.Â
