Conference Announces 2019-20 Women's Basketball Schedule Matrix
Jun 18, 2019 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – With basketball season a short five months away, the American Athletic Conference released its 2019-20 women's basketball conference schedule matrix on Tuesday. The matrix sets up which teams the Green Wave will play twice and which they will only see once.
Â
Getting two dates against the Green Wave in 2019-20 will be Cincinnati, Memphis, USF, Tulsa and Wichita State. Of those opponents, only Memphis and USF were two-time regular-season opponents for Tulane last year. The Green Wave and USF met three times, with the Bulls ending Tulane's season in the conference tournament in March. USF is the only team Tulane will have played twice in all six of its American Athletic Conference regular seasons.
Â
Tulane will welcome three teams to Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse without traveling to their buildings in return. UCF, Houston and Temple will make the trip to New Orleans, and the Green Wave will not travel to those campuses in the spring.
Â
Conversely, Tulane will also head to three opponents in the league without playing them at home. The Green Wave will make business trips to UConn, ECU and SMU, and those teams will not play in New Orleans. Tulane last traveled to UConn – the six-time-defending league champions – during the 2017-18 season.
Â
The 2020 conference tournament will once again be held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. This year's tournament will take place March 6-9.
Â
The 2019-20 season will begin in early November with plenty of familiar faces for Tulane fans. The team will return nine players from last season's roster including rising junior Krystal Freeman who was named to Second Team All-Conference the league's Most Improved Player last season. Dynah Jones, a member of the All-Freshman team last year, will be back as well.
Â
Tulane will return 79 percent of its scoring, 75 percent of its rebounding and 86 percent of its assists from 2017-18.
Â
Tulane is also adding three new freshmen to the roster in Salma Bates (New Orleans), Anijah Grant (Orlando, Florida) and Irina Parau (Romania). Also getting her first taste of playing time this season will be Dene Mimms, who redshirted as true freshman last year. The program recently announced the addition of ULM transfer Arsula Clark, who was named Third Team All-Sun Belt Conference last year.
Â
The Green Wave's full schedule with dates will be announced later in the summer.
