Track and Field: 2018-19 Year in Review

NEW ORLEANS – The Green Wave track & field teams concluded their 2018-19 seasons early last month following another tremendous, record-setting season. Tulane sent two athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, eight to the NCAA East Regional and set more than 25 new marks in the school's all-time top-10 list.
Rebekah Markel and Emmanuel Rotich were the individual highlights of the year, with Markel earning Second Team All-American status for her 14th-place finish in the pole vault at the national championship meet and Rotich reaching the national championship in the 3K steeplechase as well as the cross country season.
Despite injuries slowing the team down a bit, Tulane still managed to sweep the pole vault podium at the indoor conference championship and take six spots combined on the podium at the outdoor championship.

- Women's pole vaulters swept the podium at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in February
- Six conference athlete of the week awards between cross country and track & field
- Three new school records
- Twenty-seven (27) new entries into the program's all-time top 10
Individual Accomplishments
Reid Belanger
- Set a new personal best in the 1500 with a time of 4:59.69 in March
Rose Brutkiewicz
- Set a new personal best in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.73m indoors in February
Cameron Carroll
- Ran a 11.29-second 100-meter dash at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, his fastest time of the year
Tom Coe
- Scored two points for Tulane at the AAC Outdoor Championships, taking seventh in the 1500
- Placed second in the 800 at the Tom Tellez Invitational, setting a season best of 1:53.31
Corey Dauphine
- Part of the winning 4x100 team at the Tom Tellez Invitational
- Helped the Green Wave score with a fifth-place finish at the conference championship in the 4x100
Aldrianna Dupree
- Won the 100 and 200 at the Cole-Lancon Conference Challenge in April
- Ran a season-best 12.48 seconds in the 100
- Ran the fourth-best 60-meter dash in program history in November, crossing the finish line in 7.49 seconds
Devin Glenn
- Part of the winning 4x100 team at the Tom Tellez Invitational
- Helped the Green Wave score with a fifth-place finish at the conference championship in the 4x100
Skyler Guillot
- Came in second at the Southern Miss Open in April with a season-best javelin throw of 41.10 meters
Oneke Gwan
- Had season bests of 56.97 seconds in the 400 and 25.37 in the 200
- Part of the winning 4x100 relay at the Southern Miss Open
- Part of the sixth-place 4x100 team at the outdoor conference championship
Maya Harewood
- NCAA East Regional Qualifier
- Outdoor conference bronze medalist in the 400 and All-Conference honoree
- New personal best of 53.67 seconds at the conference championship in the 400
- Ranked in the top 10 in school history in the 60, 200 and 400 indoors with new bests in each race this year
- Part of the sixth-place 4x100 team at the outdoor conference championship
Pauline Helm
- Had her career-best 400 hurdles at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in April
Olivia Hicks
- Scored for Tulane in the high jump of the outdoor championship meet, taking sixth place with a clearance of 1.64 meters
- Had a season-best clearance of 1.67 meters in January
Brandi Hughes
- Placed second for the silver medal in the 60 hurdles at the conference championship indoors
- Ran her fastest 60 hurdles ever (7.77 seconds) in November and her fastest 200 ever (25.63) in January
Louise Jones
- Part of the winning 4x100 relay at the Southern Miss Open
- Ran her fastest 400 hurdles in her final race of the year at the conference championship (1:02.31)
Emma King
- Won the high jump at the Southeastern Louisiana Strawberry Relays
Evans Kipchumba
- Won the 5K at the LSU Alumni Gold meet and the 3K at the Cole-Lancon Conference Challenge
- Now ninth all-time in program history in the 3K (8:47.79) and the 10K (31:52.98)
Jalen LaCour
- Part of the winning 4x100 team at the Tom Tellez Invitational
- Helped the Green Wave score with a fifth-place finish at the conference championship in the 4x100
Jennifer LaMori
- Set personal records in the 800 (2:24.29), 1500 (4:39.86) and 5K (17:59.30) during the outdoor season
- Also had PRs in the mile (5:11.83) and 3K (10:12.15) during the indoor season
Kyah Loyd
- NCAA East Regional qualifier
- Bronze medalist at outdoor conference championship
- Third-fastest 60-meter hurdles in program history during the indoor season (8.46 seconds)
- Part of the sixth-place 4x100 team at the outdoor conference championship
Rebekah Markel
- Second Team All-American outdoors in the pole vault
- Honorable Mention nationally indoors in the pole vault
- Conference champion indoors and outdoors
- New school record indoors (4.33m) and outdoors (4.31m)
- Three-time conference athlete of the week
Mckenzie Melius
- NCAA East Regional qualifier
- New school record in the 3K steeplechase (10:27.81) and new PR in the 1500 (4:39.97)
- Now ninth all-time in program history in the 3K indoors (10:00.57)
Tahja Mitchell
- Freshman class record and second all-time in school history in the 200 indoors (24.44)
- Tenth all-time in the 400 outdoors (54.17)
- Scored in the 400 outdoors for Tulane at the conference championship with a seventh-place finish
- Part of the sixth-place 4x100 team at the outdoor conference championship
Nastja Modic
- NCAA East Regional qualifier
- On the podium at the indoor and outdoor conference championship in the pole vault, taking second indoors and third outdoors
- Freshman class record indoors (3.99m) and outdoors (4.07m) in the pole vault
- Fifth all-time in school history the pole vault outdoors and tied for fifth indoors
Kyra Ness-Lanckriet
- Set new personal best in the 400 indoors (59.21) and the 200 (25.35) and 400 (57.74) outdoors
Emma Newton
- Set a new personal best in the 1500 outdoors (4:40.35) and the mile indoors (5:00.86)
Alex Potts
- NCAA East Regional qualifier
- Took second place at the conference championship indoors in the pole vault and scored for Tulane with a seventh-place finish outdoors
- Tied for fifth place all-time in school history indoors (3.99m) and in sixth outdoors (4.05m)
- Freshman class record in the pole vault indoors
Trina Praprotnik Malej
- NCAA East Regional qualifier
- Placed fourth at the outdoor conference championship and eighth indoors, scoring in both meets
- Seventh all-time in school history in the triple jump indoors (12.49m) and sixth outdoors (12.67m)
Hunter Robinson
- Seventh all-time in school history in the 200 indoors (24.63)

- NCAA Outdoor National Championship qualifier
- NCAA East Regional qualifier
- Conference champion in the 3K steeplechase and the 5K
- Conference Most Outstanding Performer
- One-time conference track athlete of the week
- Won six races during the indoor and outdoor seasons
- Tulane senior class record in the 5K outdoors (14:08.87)
Bridgid Selfors
- Won the 5K at the Louisiana Classics in March
- Earned All-Louisiana status for the second-fastest 10K in the state
Mary Catherine Stovall
- Set new personal records in the 3K, 5K and 10K outdoors as well as the 3K, mile and 5K indoors
- Won the 10K at the Victor Lopez Classic
Jaetavian Toles
- Part of three winning 4x100 relay teams at events throughout the season
- Helped the Green Wave score with a fifth-place finish at the conference championship in the 4x100
Jorien Vallien
- Scored for Tulane in the high jump at the outdoor conference championship, taking seventh with a new PR of 2.01 meters
Tom Watson
- Scored in the javelin at the conference championship, placing fourth
- Now sixth all-time in program history in the javelin with a throw of 59.17 meters
- Finished in the top 10 in every regular-season meet
Carlos Zervigon
- Now eighth all-time in school history in the 3K (8:47.69) and seventh in the 10K (31:30.64)
- His 8:47.69 in the 3K is now the junior class record
