Tulane Swimming and Diving Visits LSU on Saturday
Sep 27, 2019 | Women's Swimming and Diving
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's swimming and diving team will open 2019-20 season on Saturday, as it travels up to Baton Rouge, La., to take on LSU. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. inside the LSU Natatorium.
Â
The Green Wave are led by head coach Leah Stancil. Stancil, who is beginning her second season Uptown, has been pleased with her team's progress throughout the team's preseason conditioning and feels confident about the program's future.
Â
"I just want our team to race and perform at the level I know they can compete at against a great opponent," Stancil said. "I believe in them, but at the end of the day I am not stepping up the blocks to compete at the level that I know that they can compete at on Saturday."
Â
Senior Olivia Johnson returns to the lineup for the Green Wave following an impressive junior campaign where she captured a pair of gold medals at the American Athletic Conference Championships.
Â
"Olivia was a great leader for us last year and she still is a great leader for us now," Stancil said. "She really set the tone for our team. Sometimes it is good for us to have a model of what things could look like, so that the level of performance from the group can be improved."
Â
Stancil also has been pleased with the preseason performances of several top performers from a year ago, including a number of Tulane's incoming freshmen.
Â
"I have high expectations for Kate McDonald, who had a great season a year ago," Stancil said. "I really like what I have seen out of Lilly Byrne, who is a freshman. Lilly is looking make big strides, she has been doing really great in training, so we'll see how she competes. Madison Cummings is another incoming freshman, who has been doing great in practice and I expect big things out of her. I also have been really impressed with Jordan Morling, who is one of our senior captains. I'm expecting her to perform at levels that no one is expecting."
