
Stewart, Esses Claim Doubles Crown at SIC

ATHENS, Ga. - The Tulane men's tennis doubles tandem of Dane Esses and Hamish Stewart collected their third straight win and won the Black Compass draw at the 2019 Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the University of Georgia on Sunday.
Esses and Stewart defeated a combination of UCF's Mikhail Sokolovskiy and Georgia's Samuel Dromsky, 6-4, claiming the Green Wave's first doubles crown of the fall campaign.
The Green Wave also scored a pair of singles wins against ranked opponents in consolation play, as Esses defeated the 91st-ranked Boris Kozlov of LSU, 6-2, 6-3, for his first top-100 victory of the season. Stewart, ranked 110th nationally, defeated No. 112 Rrezart Cungu from Wake Forest, 6-2, 7-6(4) to finish the weekend with a 3-1 mark in singles.
Tulane returns to action with pre-qualifying singles matches at the 2019 ITA All-American Championships, which begin Saturday, October 5 at the University of Tulsa.
