NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team returns to action after a week-long break between matches to host Samford on Sunday, February 9. First serve is scheduled for noon at the City Park Tennis Center.
TRAFFIC ALERT!
Fans planning to attend should give themselves extra time on their way to City Park on Sunday morning with the expectation of greater traffic volume due to the Rock 'n' Roll New Orleans Marathon.
IN THE RANKINGS
Freshman Mackenzie Clark broke into the ITA's national singles rankings at No. 103 according to the latest poll released Feb. 5. She became the first Tulane women's tennis player to be listed in the poll since Klara Vyskocilova during the 2014 spring season.
SCOUTING SAMFORD
The Bulldogs (3-1) are riding a three-match winning streak, and will face Nicholls State on Saturday afternoon. Despite a season-opening loss to Mississippi State, they've defeated Lipscomb (6-1), Arkansas State (6-1) and Kennesaw State (7-0), consecutively. Samford is led by Arianna Beltrame's 4-0 singles mark, while R.J. Van Rensburg and Grace Jennings own 3-1 records playing at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. The Bulldogs own a combined 8-2 record in doubles.
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane (4-2) dropped its second straight match in a 5-2 home setback to UAB last Sunday. The Blazers won a tight doubles point, and despite singles wins by Mackenzie Clark and Lauren Gish, UAB was able to collect four singles victories on the remaining courts.
RANKED SINGLES WINS
Tulane junior Lauren Gish and freshmen Mackenzie Clark and Lahari Yelamanchili have all secured singles wins over ranked opponents in their first season with the Green Wave. Most recently, Clark upset 42nd-ranked Taylor Bridges at LSU on Jan. 31, after Gish defeated No. 116 Cameron Corse from Notre Dame and Yelamanchili outlasted No. 18 Eden Richardson of LSU during the fall season.
