Tulane Sailing Opens Competition at the Charleston Spring Coed Regatta
Mar 7, 2020 | Sailing
CHARLESTON, South Carolina – The No. 20 Tulane sailing team returned to the water on Saturday, as it opened competition at the Charleston Spring Coed Regatta.Â
                                                 Â
After one day of racing, the Tulane women's team sits in 10th place (193 points), while the Green Wave's coed squad stands in seventh place (146 points). The two-day regatta features 16 teams.Â
Â
"Today started with some ups and downs," Tulane head coach Charles Higgins said. "We struggled at times early in the day to execute our game plan. We gradually started to gain some traction, and after lunch we really started to click."
Â
Caroline Benson and Caelan Watts skippered the coed boats, alongside crews Quinn Keenan and Kate Lenhard. Skipper Ciara Rodriguez-Horan sailed alongside crew Amelia Schofield in the women's races, along with skipper Katherine Byrnes and crew Josie Larkin.Â
Â
"I'm certainly happy with how we ended the day, and tomorrow the goal is to come out and start a little stronger," Higgins added. "If we can execute well from the get-go, we stand a good chance of moving up the standings."
Â
Tulane finished on a high note, as Rodriguez-Horan with Grace Siwicki closed out the afternoon with a 1-6-3-1 scoreline, elevating the team from 10th to 5th in the A division.Â
Â
On the coed side, Benson skippered all 10 races alongside Keenan and Lydia Brown. Â
