Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Recognized for Community Service Efforts
Apr 22, 2020 | Cross Country & Track
NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane women's cross country and track and field team was recognized this week for its dedication to community service, being one of 10 Division I programs in the nation to earn a spot on the Helper Helper 2019-20 Top Teams list.
The Green Wave rank seventh on the list and were one of two schools, alongside Memphis, to represent the American Athletic Conference.
"We are proud to have our women's cross country and track and field team in the top 10," assistant athletics director of student-athlete enhancement Dr. Cornell Sneed said. "This team has done great in serving the community with its demanding academic and athletic schedule. Thank you to Coach Peterson for making service a priority in your program."
The women's cross country and track and field team totaled 250 hours of community service this year. The team's largest service project included members of the team volunteering as tutors at local elementary schools throughout the city.
Tulane was able to wrap up its indoor track and field season in the AAC Championship at the end of February, before its outdoor spring season was cut short due to COVID-19.
