Tulane Sailing to Compete in a Pair of Events This Weekend
Oct 15, 2021 | Sailing
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's and COED sailing teams take center stage this weekend for a pair of races.
Â
The women's team will race in the Atlantic Coast Championship in Boston, while the COED squad heads to Kings Point, New York, to race for the Nevins Trophy at U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Â
The Atlantic Coast Championship will held on the Charles River and will feature 18 of the Top 20 teams in the country. The event also will serve as a sneak peak to the national championship this spring. Fans can watch the women's Atlantic Coach Championship on ESPN+.
Â
"These girls are hungry and ready for the weekend," head coach Charles Higgins said. "The Charles River in Boston is notoriously tricky, but we feel confident in our ability to rise to any occasion and we're excited for Race 1 to get here."
Â
The Nevins Trophy regatta will feature 10 of the nation's Top 20 teams.
Â
"The Nevins trophy is a big event for us, and we're looking forward to flexing some of the depth our roster has this weekend," Higgins said. "The forecast is for big breeze and we definitely have the squad in play to bring home a solid result.  We're very much looking forward to seeing what this group can accomplish this weekend."
Â
On Friday, both Tulane programs earned national praise, as each earned national rankings in the College Sailing rankings. The women's team was ranked No. 2 while the COED squad was slotted No. 11.
