Volleyball Hits the Road for a Pair of Matches

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University volleyball team will travel to Greenville, North Carolina and Cincinnati this weekend for a pair of matchups. The Green Wave head into the weekend after dropping a five set match to SMU on Sunday. Tulane will suit up to take on East Carolina Friday night and Cincinnati Sunday afternoon.

Friday's match up with East Carolina will be the first meeting of the season. Although the Wave hold the overall advantage 20-6, the Pirates have taken the last two meetings.

Tulane has an all-time record of 4-29 against Cincinnati. Jim Barnes and the Green Wave took the last meeting in 2019. The Wave managed to shut down future Gold Medalist Jordan Thompson, holding her to a .067 hitting percentage, one of the lowest in her career. The Olive and Blue have never won a match in Cincinnati and strive to change that this weekend.

RANKINGS
Tulane was picked fourth in 2021 American Athletic Conference Volleyball Preseason Poll, returning nearly the entire roster from the spring 2021 season. East Carolina was selected 10th while Cincinnati was picked to finish right below Tulane at fifth. After eight weeks of play Tulane currently sits in a four-way tie for fourth in the AAC. Meanwhile East Carolina sits in eighth at 3-5 and Cincinnati is tied with Houston for second spot.

AWARDS
The Green Wave picked up two preseason all-conference team selections in seniors Lexie Douglas and Kayla Dinkins. Tulane has also earned four AAC weekly honor roll selections in Michelle Urquhart, Anna Davis, Douglas, Dinkins and Mackenzie Martin.

·       Tulane owns the AAC's second best hitting percentage at .234 only .018 behind leader UCF.
·       Tulane holds two places on the AAC's top 10 leaderboard in hitting percentage in Davis and Dinkins.
·       Dinkins sits at fifth in school history in block assists.
·       Douglas is 40 kills from breaking into the top five in career kills at Tulane.
·       Douglas broke 4,000 career attacks at Tulane in last Friday's match against Memphis.
·       Douglas was one of five unanimous preseason selections across the conference.
·       Henigsman leads the Green Wave with five double doubles this season, Urquhart follows closely with four.
·       Henigsman is third in the AAC in assists per set this season averaging 9.90 assists a set.
·       Urquhart leads the AAC in aces per set at .44 and total aces with 32.
·       Urquhart is seventh in the AAC in total kills with 201.
·       Taylor Henigsman is ninth in program history in assists at 1,940.
·       Martin broke a program record on Sunday with the most digs in a single match, 41. She also broke into the top five in AAC history with that performance.
