NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University sailing team hosts the Baldwin Trophy regatta while also sending another COED squad to compete against some of the nation's best in the Atlantic Coast Championship this weekend in St. Mary's City, Maryland.
The Green Wave will host the Baldwin Trophy regatta at the Community Sailing Center on Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans Saturday. Tulane will have seven teams competing on the water with the first race set to begin at 10 a.m.
Â
"The Green Wave is excited to be able to host our first home event of the season and looking forward to having seven of our own boats competing in this event," assistant coach Jocelyn Rovniak said. "The team is expected to come out strong, focused and ready to put the roll in roll wave."
The Olive and Green will also have a COED squad on the water to compete in the Atlantic Coast Championship final in St. Mary's City, Maryland Saturday and Sunday.
Â
The Atlantic Coast Championship final will be held on the St. Mary's River and will feature 18 of the Top 20 teams in the country. The event also will serve as a sneak peek to what the national championship may look like this spring.
Â
"This weekend presents a great opportunity for us," head coach Charles Higgins said. "In many ways this regatta is a preview of what the national championship will look like in the spring. As expected, that means the competition will be tight, and will put a premium on consistency throughout the weekend. We feel well prepared, and hopefully we can put together a solid performance."
Â
Both Tulane programs have earned national praise, as each remain in the national rankings in the College Sailing rankings. The women's team is ranked No. 2 while the COED squad is slotted No. 11.
