No. 16 Tulane Bowling Opens the Colonial Lanes Classic
Oct 22, 2021 | Women's Bowling
HARAHAN, La. – The No. 16-rank Tulane Bowling team got off to a strong start at the Colonial Lanes Classic going an aggressive 5-0 Friday. The Green Wave knocked down 5,075 pins, averaging 203 per game. Tulane's day-one pin total places 2nd of 14 teams.
"I couldn't ask for a better start to our home tournament!," said Head Coach Hayley Veitch. "The team communicated well all day and battled to the very last frame of the final match to get that 5th win. Tomorrow is a different format but we will continue to keep the same focus and excitement for our spectators!"
Tulane put on an impressive performance in its first match of the day, beating No. 25 Texas Southern 1,011-876. The Wave recorded its best individual game of the day against the Tigers, knocking down 255 pins in game four.
In match two, Tulane outscored Florida A &M 1,041-830. Although the Rattlers strung together a hand full of strikes at the end it wasn't enough to break through the Wave's power.
In match three, the Olive and Blue found themselves trailing early, falling behind the 18th ranked UMES Hawks after two games. However, the team demonstrated its resiliency mounting a comeback to claim the win 970-911.
Tulane faced off against Jackson State in the fourth match. The match up went back and forth for most of the game, but in the end, Tulane would beat JSU 1,126-907
The team's record remained perfect through five matches, the last of which came against Prairie View A&M. Despite the Panthers putting up their second highest match total of the day, the Wave managed to knock down just a couple more than PVAMU and win the affair 927-918.
Sixth ranked Sam Houston State leads all teams with 5,244 total pinfall. The Bearcats are averaging 209.8 pins per game. Tulane, No. 5 North Carolina A&T, No. 9 Louisiana Tech, and No. 10 Stephen F. Austin round out the rest of the top-five.
Tulane will return to action tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. for traditional play. The teams will compete in five traditional matches on Saturday, and the cumulative pinfall from days one and two will determine the seeding for Sunday's bracket. Â
