Coach Stockton Eager for 2021-22 Season
Oct 28, 2021 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University women's basketball head coach Lisa Stockton shared her eagerness for the upcoming 2021-22 season during media day Tuesday. Entering her 28th season at the helm of the Green Wave and her 30th overall year as a head coach, Stockton has found a rejuvenated sense of enthusiasm heading into this season.
"I haven't been this excited about a team in a while," Coach Stockton said. "I think this is going to be a really, really special year."
The Green Wave return 11 letter winners from last season including four starters. Highlighting the returning group are four seniors who decided to stay in Uptown for one more season in Olive and Blue. Between the carryover from last year and the addition of four newcomers this season, Coach Stockton sees an abundance of talent available for her team.
"I'm so grateful to our seniors who came back and a senior who came in and trying to benefit from this COVID senior situation," Stockton stated. "I think it's going be a real advantage. I love the depth we have."
"We've got great depth. Our four and five we don't have tremendous depth there, but I definitely think we've got great depth in our team. I think this team is really special."
Coach Stockton is not the only one eager to start the new season. Redshirt senior guard Arsula Clark echoed the excitement speaking on the competitiveness of the team and how it could take the team to new limits.
"We want to win every day," Clark said. "It doesn't matter what group Coach Stockton puts us in, we're going to go out there and we're going to try to win it. I think that's very special for a team. I think if we keep that up and keep that grind that we can go very far."
The Olive and Blue are only 12 days away from tipping off the 2021-22 season and Coach Stockton knows the first few weeks will be a tough test for her team.
"We better be ready to go because I think we've got a really exciting schedule, a really challenging schedule, especially our road schedule," Coach Stockton said. "I think this team is itching to play and we can't wait."
The Green Wave hosts Loyola-New Orleans in an exhibition on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse before opening the 2021-22 season at home Nov. 9 against Southeastern Louisiana at 12 p.m.
