Volleyball Take Five-Set Match from USF

TAMPA, FL- Tulane Volleyball picked up its fourth conference win 3-2 (25-19,21-25,25-19,14-25,15-12) on Friday evening against USF.

The Green Wave improve to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in conference with tonight's win. Tulane out killed the USF 60 to 56 and hit .256 with 57 assists and 67 digs.Â

Lexie Douglas and Michelle Urquhart both claimed double-doubles in tonight's match. Douglas with 21 kills and 14 digs and Urquhart with 12 kills and 10 digs.

Three players had double-digit kills in the match Douglas, Urquhart, and Kayla Dinkins. Douglas was a single kill off from tying her career-high 22 kills in a match at Tulane while hitting .425. Urquhart added 16 points with her 12 kills and 10 digs. Dinkins had 10 kills of her own. These three accounted for 72% of the total kills.Â

Setter Taylor Henigsman set 47 assists and nine digs and a block.

On the defensive end Jillian Dits and Sophia Ervanian did most of the heavy lifting with 31 digs combined. While Ervanian filled the libero roll for the first four sets, Dits had a chance to take the colored jersey in set five.Â

Tulane took the first set 25-19. The Green Wave had an offensive power that the bulls couldn't handle. The Wave had 17 kills with one ace while hitting a .455 mark.Â

Set two didn't follow in that blueprint. The Wave dropped the set 25-21 with 14 kills. The errors ran rapid in this set which would become their Achilles Heel.Â

Sets three through five were back and forth battles to the very end. The Wave came out on top after summing up the sets 25-19 dropping the fourth 25-14 and closing it out 15-12.Â

The Green Wave return to action on Oct. 10 to take on UCF in Orlando. (talk about who UCF is) First serve is set for noon and will be aired on ESPN+.Â
