Tulane Volleyball Falls 3-1 at UCF

ORLANDO – The Tulane University volleyball team suffered a four-set loss on Sunday to the reigning American Athletic Conference champion UCF Knights, falling 3-1 (13-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-16) inside The Venue.

With the setback, the Green Wave dropped to 11-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Redshirt senior Lexie Douglas led the Green Wave with 14 kills. Teammates Yvette Burcescu and Kayla Dinkins also posted double digit kill totals for Tulane with 13 and 10 kills respectively. Burcescu also led the team in blocks with five.

Sophomore Sophia Ervanian chipped in defensively for Tulane with 17 digs, while junior Jillian Dits reached double figures in digs with 13. In addition, senior Taylor Henigsman added 11 digs.

UCF took the early lead in the match, posting a 25-13 victory. The opening set remained close in the early going, as Tulane trailed by just two points (10-8), but UCF would then go on to win six of the next seven points to open up a 16-9 advantage. UCF held Tulane to just four points for the remainder of the frame to secure to win.

The second set followed a similar path to the first, as Tulane remained with striking distance in the early going and was tied with UCF at eight apiece. UCF would once again go on to claim six of the next seven points and opened a 14-9 advantage. Tulane did fight back to close within two at 24-22, but it would get no closer, as the Golden Knights secured a 25-22 win.

Tulane cut UCF's match advantage to 2-1, as it posted a convincing 25-16 victory in the third set. The Green Wave's third set win was highlighted by an attack percentage of .406 in the frame. Both teams were tied at eight apiece in the beginning stages of the set, but the Green Wave reeled off five straight points to open up a 13-8 lead. UCF would not get any closer than four points for the remainder of the frame, as Tulane went on to the win.

UCF closed out the match in set four with a 25-18 win. The Golden Knights held Tulane to an attack percentage of .154. UCF won the first five points and never looked back. Tulane did close to within two (7-5), but that was as close as it would get for the remainder of the frame.

The Green Wave return to New Orleans on Oct. 15 to take on the Memphis Tigers. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at Avron B. Fogelman Arena inside the Devlin Fieldhouse.
