Team Luis Shuts Out Team Blee 3-0 to Open the Fall Ball World Series

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University baseball team began game one of its Fall Ball World Series intersquad matchup on Sunday inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium with the Blue Team shutting out the Green Team by a 3-0 count in a seven-inning affair.

Game one of the Fall Ball World Series was highlighted by outstanding pitching on both sides. Tyler Hoffman, who started for the Blue Team was dominant in his series-opening start. The redshirt junior worked 5.0 innings of no-hit ball and struck out three of the 15 batters he faced to pick up the win.

Sophomore left-handed pitcher Dylan Carmouche was equally impressive in his start for the Green Team, as he worked 4.0 innings and allowed just one run. He also struck out four and allowed just one hit on the afternoon.

Both offensives remain in check throughout the first six innings of play, as both teams combined for just seven hits.

In the seventh inning, the Blue Team's bats came alive. Junior catcher Seth Beckstead got the inning started, as he came in to pinch hit with a leadoff double to left field. Redshirt junior Logan Stevens came up next and broke the scoreless tie with a single which allowed Beckstead to score.

The Blue Team would then add two more runs thanks to two-out RBI singles from redshirt sophomore Ethan Groff and graduate student Trevor Minder to make the score 3-0.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, redshirt junior Lane Thomas came out of the bullpen to slam the door with a scoreless inning of relief to pick up the save.

The Fall Ball World Series resumes on Tuesday with game two inside Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
