
Volleyball Takes ECU in Four Sets

NEW ORLEANS -ย The Green Wave volleyball team ended Tulane University's homecoming weekend with a four-set win (25-19,29-27,21-25,25-23) on Sunday over East Carolina.Michelle Urquhart,ย Lexie Douglasย andย Kayla Dinkinsย all finished in double figures with kills. Urquhart claimed 17 kills with 13 digs on the day. Right behind her was Douglas with 16 kills, 14 digs and four block assists. Dinkins followed in suit with 11 kills with a .300 clip and four block assists of her own. On the defensive end, liberoย Sophia Ervanianย andย Jillian Ditsย did most of the heavy lifting with a combined 37 digs.ย ย Tulane took the first set 25-19. The Green Wave when on a 4-1 run to open the set, but let the Pirates get back into it and tie the game up 11-11. That would be the last time ECU would get within striking distance as Tulane would hold the lead the rest of the set.ย
ย The Green Wave improved to 16-12 overall and 9-7 in conference with today's win. Tulane held a 60-57 kill advantage against ECU. As a team, Tulane posted an attack percentage of .214 with 53 assists and 85 digs.ย ยย
Set two was as close as it could get with 11 ties and six lead changes. Tulane battled back from a 6-2 deficit to take the lead at 13-11. From there, the set would see seven ties, before the Green Wave took the frame 29-27.ย ยThe third set was a mirror of set two with Tulane having to battle from behind. The Wave would fail to comeback this time and let the Pirates take the set 25-21. ย The Wave got off to a hot start in the fourth set going on a 5-1 run. ECU didn't let up going on a run of their own to tie the game at six a piece before they would pull away and take the lead. The afternoon battle continued as the two teams tied 10 times before Tulane sealed the deal, taking the fourth set 25-23.ย
Tulane returns to action Friday Nov. 19 as it heads to Dallas to take on SMU. First serve is set for 7 p.m. CT and will be aired on ESPN+.ย ย
