Mar 12, 2021 | Baseball
Tulane's nine runs were the most it had scored all season and propelled the Green Wave back over .500. The win also handed the Green Wave their eighth straight win in series openers, dating back to last season.
"This was a good win on a Friday night on the road versus a very good Troy," head coach Travis Jewett said.
The Green Wave offense smashed 13 hits - the second-most they had collected this season.
The 13 hits also marked the fourth time this season Tulane has totaled 10 or more hits in a game. Ten of the Green Wave's 13 hits came in the seventh and eighth innings which translated into seven runs.
Prior to the seventh inning, the game was tied a two apiece. Troy tied the game at two apiece, capitalizing on three Tulane errors in the fifth inning.
After evening the score at two in the fifth, Tulane right-handed starting pitcher Braden Olthoff responded in a big way as he retired eight of the next 10 batters en route to earning his second victory of the season.

"Olthoff pitched and competed very well," Jewett added.
Offensively for Tulane, Jared Hart, Collin Burns, Luis Aviles and Simon Baumgardt all collected a pair of hits, while Hayden Hastings blasted his first home run of the season in the fourth inning.
"Simon Baumgardt coming off the bench gave us a big lift tonight," Jewett said.
