Men's Tennis Blanks No. 29 Memphis on the Road, 4-0
Mar 13, 2021 | Men's Tennis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The 30th-ranked Tulane men's tennis team earned its fourth road win of the season in a 4-0 shutout against American Athletic Conference foe and 29th-ranked Memphis on Saturday afternoon.
Inclement weather forced the start of the match to be delayed just over an hour before moving indoors where a fight for the doubles point commenced. Tulane (8-5) struck first on court two, where Akos Kotorman and Billy Suarez collected a 6-3 win. Memphis (5-5) was able to even up the score with a 6-4 victory on court three, but the Green Wave were able to clinch on court one behind a 6-4 win by Ewan Moore and Hamish Stewart.
Only four singles matches were able to play at once in the indoor facility, as the Tigers and Green Wave each won a pair of first sets. Ranked 53rd, Ewan Moore extended Tulane's lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Oscar Cutting on court two, before Luis Erlenbusch closed out a hard-fought, 7-6(3), 7-6(4) on court three over David Stevenson.
On court one, the 40th-ranked Stewart bounced back from a 6-3 loss in the first set against James Story to earn a late break and win the second, 7-5. The Glasgow, Scotland native dominated the third set to win, 6-2, and clinch the match for the Green Wave.
