Men's Tennis Hosts Auburn, LSU in Big Weekend at City Park

NEW ORLEANS - The 27th-ranked Tulane men's tennis team begins a three-match homestand with a pair of contests March 19 and 21 against Southeastern Conference opponents Auburn and LSU.
The Green Wave host No. 39 Auburn on Friday at 2 p.m., before taking on No. 41 LSU at 1 p.m., on Sunday. Both matches will be played at the City Park Tennis Center.
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane (8-5) secured its third shutout victory of the spring behind an impressive doubles performance and three quick singles wins to defeat No. 29 Memphis on the road on March 13. The Wave won No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to clinch the first team point of the match, before taking No. 2 and No. 3 singles in straight sets and No. 1 singles in three sets to clinch.
SCOUTING AUBURN
In a contest that serves as a makeup date from the postponed match on Feb. 5, the Tigers (6-9) enter Friday's match with losses in two straight and three of their last five matches. Auburn's most recent setbacks came at home against No. 4 Tennessee (4-3) and No. 20 Georgia (4-3) last weekend. The Tigers share three common opponents with the Green Wave in Florida State, Miami (Fla.) and Alabama. Auburn is led by Tyler Stice's 10-4 singles record this spring, which includes a 7-2 mark at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. In doubles, Stice and Jan Galka own an impressive 11-1 record with all of their results coming at the No. 3 position.
LAST TIME THEY MET – MARCH 15, 2018
Despite dropping the doubles point, Tulane rallied back with five, straight-set singles wins to earn a 5-2 home win over the Tigers in City Park.
SCOUTING LSU
The Tigers (10-7) enter Sunday's match with losses in three of their last four and four of their last six matches including a 4-1 setback at Tulsa in their most recent outing on March 15. LSU is led by the nation's No. 99 singles player Ronald Hohmann who owns a 10-10 singles record this spring including a 7-6 mark at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. In doubles, Hohmann and Rafael Wagner comprise the 60th-ranked tandem in the national rankings with a 16-7 overall record and an 8-5 ledger playing on court one.
LAST TIME THEY MET – FEBRUARY 7, 2021
Tulane won on their third straight trip to Baton Rouge and for the fifth time in the last six overall meetings against LSU with a 5-2 victory. The Green Wave won a tight doubles point with a 6-3 win on court two and a 7-6(7) clinch on court one, before winning in straight sets on singles courts three, four, five and six, respectively.
IN THE RANKINGS
In the latest ITA team rankings released on March 17, the Green Wave ascended three spots to No. 27 in the national poll. The Wave possess two players listed in the ITA's national singles rankings, led by senior Hamish Stewart at No. 40 and fifth-year senior Ewan Moore at No. 53.
THE DOUBLES POINT
Tulane has won the doubles point in 10 of its 13 matches this season and own a combined 23-11 overall record. Stewart and Moore are 9-4 at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, while freshman Billy Suarez and senior Akos Kotorman are 8-3 playing at the No. 2 position.
BOORAS NEARS MILESTONE WIN
In his 12th season at the helm of the program, director of tennis and head coach Mark Booras sits just one victory shy of reaching the 150-win plateau.
AAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior Hamish Stewart was selected as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Feb. 16 for the fourth time in his career after receiving the recognition once as a junior in 2020 and twice in 2019 as a sophomore.

Fans are encouraged to bring their own bag chairs for seating. All spectators will be asked to remain six feet away from the courts at all times, respect social distancing rules, avoid gathering and remain six feet away from others. All spectators are required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth while inside City Park.
