
No. 20 Beach Volleyball Completes Day One of The March to May

GULF SHORES, Alabama — The No. 20 Tulane beach volleyball team (7-4, 2-3 CCSA) opened action in the March to May on Saturday, falling to UAB, No. 10 TCU and No. 11 Grand Canyon in 3-2 battles on the sand.
Senior Addison Hermstad and sophomore Samantha Mehlman won two matches from the No. 3 position on day one of the tournament, defeating UAB's Annie Pringle and Jenna Gathright (23-21, 21-18) before earning a three-set win over TCU's Maria Gonzalez and Rochelle Scott (21-23, 21-17, 15-8).Â
Also recording two wins on Saturday was graduate transfer Avery Arellano and freshman Lara Torruella, who defeated UAB's Salli Napolitano and Arden Copping on court four (21-14, 22-20) before taking down TCU's Trinity Cavanaugh and Tara Patton (21-14, 21-19).Â
From the number one spot, graduate student Eva Torruella and sophomore Kendall Peters defeated Grand Canyon's Bella Bauman and Teagan DeFalco in straight sets (25-23, 21-19).Â
Seniors Rio Frohoff and Gabriella Becerra earned a three-set victory over Grand Canyon's Krista Rowan and Katie Sarber (21-14, 19-21, 15-13), coming just short of pulling off a three-set win against UAB's Sarah Dickson and Ella Alexander in the first match of the day (14-21, 21-12, 13-15).
The Green Wave will be back in action on Sunday as the team readies for day two of the March to May and takes on No. 3 LSU a 8 a.m. and No. 18 Georgia State at 2 p.m.
