
Beach Volleyball Goes 2-0 Saturday, Defeats Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Boise State

FORTH WORTH, Texas — The RV beach volleyball (19-11, 6-9 CCSA) won two matches on Saturday to close the weekend in the TCU Invitational, defeating Texas A&M Corpus Christi (4-1) and Boise State (4-1).
In the first match of the day against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, senior Addison Hermstad and sophomore Samantha Mehlman earned a 21-18, 21-15 win from the No. 2 spot over Brooke Adkisson and Emily Ramirez. The pair moved to the number one position against Boise State, defeating Boise State's Evi Wilson and Erin Martin in three sets, 21-23, 21-13, 15-12.
Also going 2-0 on Saturday was graduate students Tarin Mergener and Avery Arellano on court three, beating TAMUCC's Mary Dodge and Migle Mazurkeviciute (21-15, 27-25) before taking down Boise State's Joey Benson and Sedona Hansen (21-16, 18-21, 15-11).
Teaming up from the No. 4 position was graduate transfer Allie Olsonoski and freshman Maddie Speicher, who earned wins over Texas A&M Corpus Christi's Kylie Kvam and Micaela Mirabal in straight sets (21-18, 21-17) and Boise's Sierra Land and Katie Martin (21-17, 18-21, 15-13).
Freshman Lara Torruella and sophomore Ashton Mares also went undefeated on Saturday on court five, beating TAMUCC's Jaylyn Porras and Tori Johnson (21-19, 21-12) and BSU's Ellie McDonald, Ellie and Kylee Johnson (21-16, 21-17).
Recording wins in exhibition matches over Texas A&M Corpus Christi's Jenna Jone and Kayla Walker (21-17, 21-18) and Boise State's Yasmin Tan and Maya Watkins (21-10, 21-14) was seniors Gabriella Becerra and Rio Frohoff.
The Green Wave are set to head to Gulf Shores, Alabama, next weekend for the team's final weekend of regular season action, competing in the FSU Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
