Apr 17, 2021 | Men's Tennis
HOUSTON - The 20th-ranked Tulane men's tennis team picked up its third straight win and closed out its regular-season slate with a 4-0 road victory at Rice on Saturday afternoon at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The Green Wave (14-6) got on the scoreboard early in doubles, as fifth-year senior Luis Erlenbusch and freshman Fynn Kuenkler cruised to a 6-2 win over Wes Barnett and Trinity Grear on court three. Despite the Owls (9-11) winning on court two by the same score, the Wave's 29th-ranked tandem of seniors Ewan Moore and Hamish Stewart closed out a 6-3 decision over 72nd-ranked Conrad Russell and Sumit Sarkar on court one to take a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
For Moore and Stewart, the win was their fourth over a ranked duo this season.
Tulane faced some retaliation from Rice in singles, as the Owls won the first set on courts four, five and six, respectively. Fortunately for the Green Wave, the squad's senior leadership took control on courts one, two and three to win all three contests in straight sets.
Erlenbusch was first to close the book on his match, 6-3, 6-0, over Jacob Eskeland on court three to pick up his team-leading 14th win of the season. The Bruchsal, Germany native also improved his winning streak to 10 straight matches.
Moore extended the Wave's lead to 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court two over Mohamed Abdel-Aziz, before the 30th-ranked Stewart defeated Sarkar, 6-3, 6-4, on court one to clinch.
Up next, Tulane awaits seeding for the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championship which will be held April 22-25 at the USTA National Training Center in Laka Nona, Florida.
