
Track and Field Secures New Records in Final Regular Season Meet

BATON ROUGE, La. — Saturday marked the final regular season meet for the Tulane track and field team at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge. The Green Wave finished their regular season off with a great final push, earning remarkable personal-bests and placing them in confident positions going into the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
Tri Malej concluded the regular season with another win in the triple jump for a mark of 13.16m, which despite a heavy headwind, is notable close to Malej's personal-best jump of 13.28m. Malej has stayed undefeated in the triple jump so far this season.
"This is my best season yet," Malej said. "I was very pleased with how the regular season went, and I am excited to see what more I can accomplish going into conference and in the seasons to come."
The Green Wave ran strong in the 400m dash with Maya Harewood placing ninth for an impressive mark of 54.35 and Hunter Robinson coming in just behind in 11th place with a collegiate-best mark of 54.79.
"I am really happy with the way I performed today and feel confident going into the conference meet," Robinson said.
"It was definitely an improvement, and I am grateful it happened when it did," Harewood said of her performance. "It is a confidence booster and puts me in a good place going into conference and hopefully regionals."
Maren Butler had a successful start to the morning in the discus throw, placing sixth with a throw of 43.72m. Then in the shot put, she threw for 14.67m to earn an eighth-place finish. Both marks were personal records for Butler as both marks earned third place all-time in the Tulane record book.
"It was really nice to have the performance I did today," Butler said. "Working hard pays off, and I am excited for conference to see what more is in the tank".
Olivia Hicks gained an outdoor personal record in the high jump with a mark of 1.67m. This mark earned her sixth place at the meet, and tied for a sixth place spot all-time in the Tulane record book.
"My performance today was a big improvement from the last meet and the season as a whole," Hicks said. "It has been a little bit of a tough season, so I am pleased with my improvements."
In the 200m dash, Oneke Gwan and Asja Thompson both raced for personal best times, respectively of 25.10 and 25.25.
Next up, Tulane will begin preparations for the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Tampa, Fla., May 14-16.
