
Track and Field Pursues Wins at AAC Championships

NEW ORLEANS —The Tulane track and field team travels to Tampa, Fla. to compete in the 2021 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships which will take place May 14-16. at the USF Track & Field Stadium.
On Friday, the field events will kick off with the hammer throw at 11 a.m., followed by the javelin at 3 p.m. The heptathlon will also begin on Friday with the 100m hurdles at 11 a.m., followed by the high jump, the shot put and then the 200m dash.
The Friday track events will start at 6:30 p.m. with the women's and then men's 1500m run trials. The women's and then the men's 200m dash trials will follow and then the 400m hurdles trials. Friday evening will conclude with the men's 10000m at 8:35 p.m.
Saturday, the field events start back up at 3 p.m. with the long jump, followed by the shot put. The pole vault is next up at 4:30 p.m. The heptathlon will resume with the long jump at 11 a.m., followed by the javelin and 800m to finish.
The track events will begin at 5:25 p.m. with the 100m hurdles trials followed by the women's and the men's 800m trials. The 400m dash is next up for the women and then the men to close the second evening.
For the meet's conclusion on Sunday, the field events will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the triple jump and the discus. The high jump at 4:30 p.m. will be the final field event.
The track events begin at 4:30 p.m. with the 400m relay, followed by the finals for the women's and men's 1500m run. The 100m hurdles final is next at 5:10 p.m. Then, the 400m dash final for the men and women will start up. After that will be the finals for the women and men's 800m at 6 p.m. followed by the 400m hurdles. The 200m dash finals for the women and men come next at 6:30 p.m. Track events will conclude for the Green Wave with the 5000m run for the women and then the men at 6:40 p.m.
Tri Malej had an especially commendable season with a new Tulane outdoor record in the triple jump with a mark of 13.28m. Malej has stayed undefeated in the triple jump so far this season and was awarded the AAC Field Athlete of the Week twice.
Migle Muraskaite and Kristen O'Handley both broke numerous records in multiple events in the heptathlon earlier this outdoor season and look for a strong finish in the heptathlon this weekend. Muraskaite currently holds the Tulane outdoor record for the heptathlon with a score of 5373 points.
Maya Harewood and Hunter Robinson have both had successful seasons in the 400m dash. Robinson gained a collegiate-best mark of 54.79 last weekend at the LSU Invitational. Harewood holds a personal best from the 2019 season with a time of 53.67, and has competed tremendously so far this season as well, Harewood earned a time of 54.35 last weekend.
Maren Butler had a successful weekend at the LSU Invitational as well, putting her in a good spot for the discus and the shot put this weekend. Butler threw for 43.27m in the discus and 14.67m in the shot put, both finishes earned her third place all-time spots in the Tulane record book.
