Migle Muraskaite Wins Heptathlon on Day Two of AAC Championships

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tulane track and field team completed the second day of the 2021 American Athletic Conference championships Saturday, earning multiple new records and elevated wins in the heptathlon and the pole vault.
Migle Muraskaite won the heptathlon with an incredible score of 5,478 points, crushing her previous personal record and establishing a new all-time Tulane record. In the heptathlon, Muraskaite also won the high jump with a mark of 1.70m, tying for a fourth place spot in the Tulane record book. Not stopping there, she won the javelin throw with a mark of 43.57m. As well, Muraskaite placed second in the shot put with a mark of 12.35m and second in the 800m with a time of 2:20.51.
Kristen O'Handley also finished strong in the heptathlon, placing fifth overall with a score of 4,990 points which earned her a third place mark in the Tulane record book. O'Handley won the 200m dash with a time of 25.11 and placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 11.66m.
Tulane finished with high marks in the pole vault later in the afternoon. Nastja Modic earned a fifth-place finish with a mark of 3.92m and Kate Sander came in seventh with a mark of 3.67m.
Maya Harewood finished fourth in the 400m dash prelims with a time of 53.99, qualifying for Sunday's final. Hunter Robinson had a great finish as well in 10th with a time of 54.86.
For the meet's conclusion on Sunday, the field events will begin at 2:30 p.m. with the triple jump and the discus. The high jump at 4:30 p.m. will be the final field event.
The track events begin at 4:30 p.m. with the 400m relay, followed by the finals for the women's and men's 1500m run. The 100m hurdles final is next at 5:10 p.m. Then, the 400m dash final for the men and women will start up. After that will be the finals for the women and men's 800m at 6 p.m. followed by the 400m hurdles. The 200m dash finals for the women and men come next at 6:30 p.m. Track events will conclude for the Green Wave with the 5000m run for the women and then the men at 6:40 p.m.
