
Volleyball Falls to Missouri State in Invitational Finale Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – In the final match of the weekend, the Tulane Green Wave volleyball team went toe-to-toe with tournament host Missouri State in a three-set match on Saturday afternoon in the Hammons Student Center, giving the opposition a fair fight but falling in the close of the 2021 Mary Jo Wynn Invitational.
Tulane fell by counts of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-22.
Tulane (6-3) struggled to produce offensively, hitting .010 as a group with 28 kills. The Bears (6-2) attacked early and often attacking at a .326 clip as a team.
To start set one, the Green Wave took advantage of two Bears errors to go up 2-0. After those, the Wave failed to get the offense working. The Bears came out firing taking and opened up a 17-7 lead en route to the win.
Tulane did not hold a lead during the second set totaling, as it totaled just nine kills eight errors and hit .030 as a team. Senior Kayla Dinkins led the Green Wave with four kills in the second set, with redshirt senior Lexie Douglas right behind her with three.
The Olive and Blue showed the most fight during the third set tying up the Bears five times and scoring 22 points. After being down 19-13 freshman Michelle Urquhart added two kills and a block to her stat line, to help the Green Wave close in at 19-18 towards the end of the set. Ultimately, Tulane couldn't hold off the Bears, as they took the final set to win the match 25-22.
Tulane will be back in action on Friday, at their temporary home Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Al. The Wave will play in the first game of the Green Wave Invitational at 10 a.m.
