Volleyball Takes first conference game from Wichita State 3-1

HOUSTON-Â Tulane Volleyball battled for a 3-1 win over Wichita State, 18-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-21, on Friday at the Fertitta Center on the University of Houston's campus.Â

The Green Wave didn't get off to a fast start but fought back for the win after they dropped set one. This win, improved Tulane's record to 8-5 in 2021. The Wave hit .243 in the matchÂ
Anna Davis led Tulane with 16 kills and hit .517. She also added one ace and five blocks. Yvette Burcescu and Kayla Dinkins had 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Lexie Douglas followed suit with seven kills of her own.Â
Setter Taylor Henigsman finished with 38 assists and 10 digs to earn her second double-double in only six matches this season.Â
Davis and Dinkins led Tulane in the first set, as each finished with three kills in the only dropped set, 18-25. Defensive specialist Jillian Dits pulled the Wave out in front of the second set with a five-point run from the service line. The set went final 25-20, which knotted the score up at one set a piece.Â
The third set didn't look good for Tulane as it trailed 14-20. The Olive and Blue laced together a four-point run followed directly by a side out and a five-point run. After taking the lead was secured 23-22, a Dinkins and Burcescu block and a Kill from Davis bagged the set 25-23. Set four went back and forth but ultimately went to the Wave with 15 kills and four aces.Â
The Green Wave return to New Orleans for the first time since Golden Hurricanes Ida to turn their attention to the hurricanes of Tulsa. Tulane plays host Sunday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. at Avron B. Fogelman Arena inside the Devlin Fieldhouse.
