Tulane Women’s Tennis Rolls Past Alcorn State in Season-Opener, 7-0
Jan 20, 2022 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's tennis team took care of business in its 2022 season-opener as it defeated Alcorn State 7-0 Thursday at City Park Tennis Center. The Green Wave started the day by sweeping the Braves in doubles play before rolling through singles action.
"We had some very tough conditions today, but the girls had a great attitude and were very resilient," head coach Maria Brito said. "It's always great to get your first match under your belt before playing a top-25 LSU team."
The duos of Mackenzie Clark and Kristen Borland, Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell and Adelaide Lavery and Brooke Theis got Tulane off to a hot start each earning quick victories to give the Green Wave the doubles point. In singles play, Yelamanchili was the first to take care of business before being followed by Lavery, Theis, Jiayun Zhu and Cora Barber with wins. Borland capped the day for the Green Wave by delivering one final victory in singles competition.
"Time to get back to work and get ready to compete on Tuesday," Brito said.
With the win over Alcorn State, Tulane opens the season 1-0 for the sixth consecutive year.
Up next, Tulane will host LSU on Tuesday, January 25 at City Park Tennis Center. Play is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CT.
