Oct 12, 2022 | Baseball
NEW ORLEANS- In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, Tulane Baseball is proud to recognize the history, achievements, and contributions of our Hispanic American players. We sat down with right-handed pitcher Cristian Sanchez to get to know more about his heritage and culture.Â
What is your heritage?
I am Hispanic. My dad is from Puerto Rico, and my mom is from Nicaragua.Â
Â
What is your favorite tradition that is practiced within your culture?
My favorite tradition is every year for my birthday, my grandma will make my favorite rice pudding, and it's one of my favorite dishes frommy Puerto Rican culture.Â
What is your favorite food dish associated with your heritage?
My favorite dish is called mofongo it's basically, a mash of plantains, pork, and some garlic, and it's delicious.
What is one thing you wish people knew about your culture?
One I think people should know is that we love to dance and show off our rhythm and move our hips.
How do you feel about the representation of your culture in media and sports?
I would say it has improved a lot recently. I think it's beautiful whenever we see Hispanic, Latino, or Spanish people in places of power and have a platform to speak their voices. It's truly beautiful.
