The Wave Rolls Its Way to Another Conference Victory at Home

NEW ORLEANS -ย The Wave rolled its way to another conference victory in an intense five-set match over East Carolina on Friday night at the Avron B. Fogelman Arena inside Devlin Fieldhouse. The Green Wave took the match 25-17, 25-22, 28-26, 25-22, 20-18.

ย Tulane improved to 8-14 overall and 3-8 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Pirates dipped to 10-11 and 5-5 in the league.
ย The Green Wave came out strong in the first set, taking the lead 10-5.ย The Wave extended its lead after a three-point run brought the score up to 18-12, causing the Pirates to call a timeout. Match point was a replay after East Carolina challenged the call on the block made by Skyer Bumpers for the win at a score of 24-17. A kill from Melissa Kolurbasi sealed the set one victory for the Green Wave at a score of 25-17.

ย The start of the second set was a point-for-point battle until East Carolina took the lead after two kills to make the score 7-5. The Green Wave grabbed it back after three straight aces by Amarachi Osujiย which caused East Carolina to call a timeout to make the score 15-14. The two teams stayed close in score for the remainder of the set until Tulane took the lead with a four-point run that brought the score up to 23-19. The Pirates countered with a timeout at 24-21 but, were unsuccessful in their attempt to calm the Wave. The set went final at a score of 25-22.ย

ย The Green Wave pulled ahead early in the third set, 3-0. Later in the match, Tulane pushed even further ahead after two errors from ECU, and an ace set the score at 15-9. A timeout was called by the Green Wave after two consecutive kills and a score of 17-14. The remainder of the match was an intense battle. The two teams tied the score at 25-25, and again at 26-26. The Green Wave fell behind by two to end the set at a score of 26-28.

The Green Wave and the Pirates went point for point at the beginning of the fourth set, but The Pirates took a 10-7 lead after a kill, and an ace.ย Tulane tied the set up at a score of 19-19, trailed by a time-out called by East Carolina. Near the end of the fourth set, the Pirates challenged a call about a tough on the block but were unsuccessful, making the score 23-21. The Green Wave came within three but could not grasp the win dropping the set by a score of 25-22.

The fifth set got off to a quick start, with the two teams tying at a score of 4-4. The Pirates called a time-out after Tulane took the lead at a score of 12-10. The remainder of the set was a point-for-point battle, but, at the very end, the Wave came crashing in for the win at a score of 20-18.
The Tulane volleyball team fought hard and came out on top for another conference win at home. The match had nine total set points between the two teams, and outside hitter,ย Amarachi Osuji is tied for third for the most aces in a match (7) inย program history.

Tulane is back in action Sunday in NOLA when Temple (8-14, 2-9) comes calling for a 12:00 start.ย
