Tulane Sends Four to Compete in Fall Open Match Race National Championship

NEW ORLEANS – A quartet of sailors will represent the Tulane University Sailing team in the ICSA Fall Open Match Race National Championship this weekend. The regatta will be hosted in San Diego, California, by the San Diego Yacht Club.

The Green Wave earned an at-large selection for the Open Match Race with skipper Cameron Giblin leading the way. Giblin will be joined by Quinn Keenan, Abigail Borggaard, and Mia Hanes for Tulane to represent as the only Southeastern Intercollegiate Sailing Association (SEISA) team set to compete in the Open Match Race National Championship.

Tulane will be one of the top 10 teams competing for the Cornelius Shield Trophy over the weekend. The other schools represented in the regatta will be Brown, College of Charleston, Georgetown, Stanford, Tufts, Wisconsin, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and Yale.

Racing days will be held Friday through Sunday. The event will consist of five stages: Stage 1 – One Round Robin, Stage 2 – Repechage – Bottom 4 – Single Round Robin, Stage 3 – Knockout Quarterfinals, Stage 4 – Knockout Semifinals, and Stage 5 – Knockout Finals and Petit Finals.

All races will be held in the San Diego Bay area with racing set to begin at 1 p.m. CT each day.
