Tulane Women's Tennis Falls at No. 13 Auburn
Feb 20, 2022 | Women's Tennis
AUBURN, Ala. – The Tulane University women's tennis team (4-3) fell in its second road match of the season as it took a 5-2 loss against Auburn (9-2) on Sunday.
"Auburn is one of the best teams in the nation and we knew that coming in to the match," head coach Maria Brito said. "Unfortunately, we didn't close it out in the doubles and that hurt us. We had plenty of chances and we needed to capitalize on those opportunities. We had a great win at #1 with our first ranked team win. In singles, we felt that we played very emotional and we beat ourselves a bit too much."Â
The duo of Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell continued its strong start to the season as it defeated the 48th-ranked pairing of Selin Ovunc and Ariana Arseneault 6-4. Despite the win on court one of doubles play the Green Wave went on to drop the doubles point.
Junior Mackenzie Clark had one of the two points in singles action on the day for Tulane defeating #125 Carolyn Ansari 1-6, 7-6, 1-0. Adelaide Lavery had the other singles point for Tulane defeating Adeline Flach, 6-2, 6-4.
"I am glad the girls got the chance to compete at a very high level and learn from this match," Brito said. "Ready to bounce back and play back at home against LSU."
Up next, the Green Wave hosts the LSU Tigers on Wednesday, February 23. The match between Tulane and the LSU will begin at 12 p.m. at the City Park Tennis Center.
