Tulane Men’s Tennis Drops Opener to Wichita State at ASU Spring Break Tournament
Mar 11, 2022 | Men's Tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 62 Tulane University men's tennis team fell to fellow American Athletic Conference member No. 72 Wichita State 4-3 in the first round of the Arizona State Spring Break Tournament. The loss will send the Green Wave into the consolation bracket of the tournament to face Michigan State.
Doubles play between the Wave and the Shockers was tightly contested with each match being decided by two points or fewer. The duo of Luka Petrovic and Rafael de Alba earned the lone win for Tulane in doubles with a 6-4 victory on court three. The pairings of Charlie Barry and Alex Bancila and Luc Hoeijmans and Fynn Kuenkler each came up just shy of claiming the doubles point for the Green Wave falling 7-6 on both courts.
The action remained close moving on to singles action. Kuenkler and Barry each picked up wins in two sets for Tulane while de Alba, Hoeijmans and Petrovic went to decisive third sets on their courts. Petrovic earned a three-set victory on court four after dropping his opening set, but the third set did not fall in favor of the Wave for de Alba or Hoeijmans as Tulane dropped a tough match 4-3 to Wichita State.
The Green Wave moves on to face Michigan State tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. CT on courts 1-4 and 6-7 at the Kiwanis Tennis Center. There will be no live scoring, but the match will be available to stream by clicking HERE.
