Tulane Men’s Tennis to Open AAC Championship Against No. 37 Tulsa Friday
Apr 20, 2022 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The No. 74 Tulane University men's tennis team earned the No. 6 seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship and will face the No. 3 seed 37th-ranked Tulsa in the quarterfinals Friday. The match between the Green Wave and the Golden Hurricane is set for 12 p.m. CT on Friday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus.
Tulane finished the regular season with a 7-14 record overall to land sixth in the AAC heading into the tournament. This marks the lowest seed the Wave has had in the tournament since joining the conference in 2015.
The Green Wave holds a 6-5 record all-time in the AAC Championship including winning the title in 2018. In six appearances in the tournament, the Wave has reached the semifinals four times.
The series history between Tulane and Tulsa leans in favor of the Wave as Tulane holds a 12-6 advantage all-time over the Golden Hurricane, including a win earlier this season. With its 4-2 victory on March 25 this year, the Wave extended its current win streak against Tulsa to four games. Tulane and Tulsa have only met once in the AAC Championship with the Green Wave losing that matchup 4-3 in the semifinals in 2015.
Doubles play for the Green Wave is led by the pairing of Luc Hoeijmans and Fynn Kuenkler with eight wins on the season. In singles, Luka Petrovic leads Tulane with 10 wins while Kuenkler and Charlie Barry follow with nine and seven victories, respectively, on the year.
