
Hoffman Selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 17th Round of the MLB Draft

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University right-handed pitcher Tyler Hoffman was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 17th round (506th overall pick) of the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.

The Mobile, Alabama, product becomes the 130th player selected in the MLB Draft in program history. He also extends the Green Wave's streak to 11 consecutive years with at least one player selected in the MLB Draft.

Hoffman's selection by Colorado marks the first member of the Green Wave to be taken by the Rockies since Michael Johns in 1997.

Hoffman posted a 4.92 career ERA with a 6-7 overall record. In his 29 appearances, including 17 starts on the mound for the Green Wave, he totaled 86.0 innings pitched with 68 hits and 55 runs given up. The righty struck out 105 of the 386 batters he faced in his two seasons Uptown.

In his final season with the Green Wave he had 16 appearances including five starts. He threw 35.0 innings with 31 strikeouts in the 2022 season.

In the 2021 season he established himself as the Green Wave's Sunday starter for much of the year during conference play. Prior to the start of league play, he was a consistent midweek starter for the Green Wave. He saw action in 13 games and made 12 starts. His work during the season earned him preseason all-conference honors prior to the spring of 2022.

Prior to his arrival in Uptown, Hoffman spent the two seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He Logged 53.0 innings across 10 starts as a freshman while totaling 40 strikeouts. He also fanned 19 batters in just 11.2 innings during a COVID-19-shortened sophomore campaign.

During his high school career at Mobile Christian, Hoffman helped guide his team to three state championships and was named 3A All-State as a senior after he posted a 9-1 record. As a sophomore in the third round of the state playoffs, he pitched a complete game shutout that advanced the squad to the championship.
