Aug 17, 2022 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane men's basketball head coach Ron Hunter announced the hiring of Devin Mitchell as the assistant director of player development on Wednesday.
Â
"We are excited to have Devin join our staff this season," Hunter said. "Not only was he a great athlete, but he really understands the culture we have and will be a great asset to our program as it moves forward."
Â
Mitchell played for Hunter and his staff at Georgia State from 2015-19. As a senior he earned All-Sun Belt Preseason Second Team honors before averaging 12.2 points and 1.9 rebounds per game while shooting 43.3 percent from 3-point range, ranked No. 1 in the Sun Belt and No. 14 in the NCAA. Mitchell played a key role for Georgia State as they made their way to the NCAA tournament in the 2018-19 season.
Â
During the 2017-18 season he was named to the All-Sun Belt Third Team after averaging 12.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor and 44.7 percent from 3-point range.
Â
Mitchell saw limited minutes his first two seasons at Georgia State after he transferred from Alabama.
Â
"Devin was with us when we made it to the NCAA tournament and I am confident he can use what he learned during that season here at Tulane," Hunter said.
Â
The Lawrenceville, Georgia native graduated with a degree in journalism.
