NEW ORLEANS – With the fall season just two weeks away the reigning American Conference champions look to build off a successful summer of competition.
Â
"Our summer season certainly kicked off where our spring season finished," head coach Stew Burke said. "I'm excited to see that the girls went out and competed, won and had lots of red numbers."
Â
Carlota Palacios was the first on the team to break par over the summer. The senior shot a 71 at the Campeonato de Espana Absoluto.
Â
Sophomore Matilde Innocenti had a stellar summer winning both the Gran Premio Di Monticello Femminile (69-71-71) and the Citta Di Treviso (72-65-70). The Florence, Italy native was also the runner-up in the Italian Matchplay Championship and the Citta Di Milano Trofeo Gianni Albertini.
Â
2022 All-Conference team member Carla Bernat appeared in a number of tournaments in Spain this summer. Bernat was a R&A Women's Amateur finalist, shooting a 67 in the second round. The sophomore finished fifth in the Compeonato De Espana De FFAA Absoluto and 13th in the Campeonato De Espana. She finished the summer with a total of 24 birdies.
Â
Cleo Liu found herself in the top five of two tournaments this summer. The junior was third at the Campeonato Abierto de Madrid Femenino (74-74-68) and fourth at the Campeonato WAGR Femenino Sub21 Golf Santander (76-75-68).
Â
"The team has huge potential this coming year and I know expectations will be high from within and outside the squad," Burke said.
Â
Ruhee Pandit was a finalist in the SoCal Women's Matchplay, a pro tour event. Luna Xu also continued to compete in professional events.
Â
Miriam Emmert finished 21st in the German International Amateur and Hanna Liu finished 34th at the Texas Women's Strokeplay.
Â
"We're excited for this year and can see the improvements the girls have made this summer," assistant coach Rinko Mitsunaga said. Â
Â
The Green Wave returns its entire AAC Championship roster including the three All-Conference team members in Bernat, Cleo Liu and Sandra Vazquez.
Â
Tulane opens it's fall season on September 12th at the Green Wave Classic.
